A new home for GBS
Grantham Book Services, the third party distributor owned by The Random House Group, announced today that it will move its entire distribution and client services to a larger site in May 2008.
GBS, which currently distributes 18 million books a year on behalf of 40 independent publishers, will take over a 350,000 sq ft distribution centre in Grantham, previously run by TDG, on 1st May.
The move has been prompted by an extended period of growth for GBS, whose client base has grown by 25% in the last twelve months. The move means that GBS will continue to offer its clients an excellent service that meets individual distribution needs, alongside increased flexibility and customer care.
A project team has already been appointed to manage the transfer to the new site and consultations have begun with client publishers. The transfer of client stock will be managed on a carefully phased basis and there will be a period of dual running of both sites to ensure a smooth transition. The move is expected to be completed by September 2008.
Mark Williams, Managing Director of Random House Distribution, comments,
“This move represents a major investment in GBS. We have been looking for a site for several months now and TDG was the obvious choice. Our priority was to find somewhere of the right size in or around Grantham so that our highly valued and experienced workforce can move with the business.
“The move is purely on a physical basis and we will be replicating our existing IT and systems infrastructure at our new site. We already have a management team in place to ensure a seamless transfer to our new home and I’m confident that this new phase in GBS’s development will lead to even more opportunities to offer existing and new clients an unparalleled level of service and commitment.”
